How to Convert an iPhone's HEIC Photos to JPG

Fixing the photo format iPhones save by default when a site or program won't accept it.

A photo taken straight from an iPhone often refuses to upload somewhere - a job application, an older program, a site that just shows a generic error. The photo itself is fine; it's saved as HEIC, a format iPhones use by default that plenty of software still doesn't read.

Convert it to a format everything reads

  • Open HEIC to JPG and drop in the photo (or photos).
  • It downloads as a regular JPG - the format every site, phone, and program already accepts.

Converting a whole photo roll export at once

An iPhone export rarely hands back just one photo - it's usually dozens. On Filevolo Pro, drop in as many HEIC files as you need and they all convert together, downloading as a single .zip of JPGs instead of one file at a time. On the free plan, dropping several files converts only the first one, so batches of photos need Pro to go through in one pass.

Why iPhones use HEIC at all

HEIC compresses photos more efficiently than JPG, so it takes real photos at real quality without eating as much storage. It's a genuinely better format on the phone itself - the problem is only that a lot of the software photos eventually end up in was built before HEIC existed and never added support for it.

Common questions

Can I convert my whole photo library at once? With Filevolo Pro, yes - select as many HEIC files as you need and get a single .zip of JPGs back. The free plan converts one file at a time.

Does this lose quality? Not in any way you'd notice for normal use - JPG is a different compression method, not a worse one at this quality level.

What about Live Photos? The still image converts normally. The short video that plays alongside it in Live Photos is a separate component HEIC can carry, and it isn't part of what gets converted.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere? No, the conversion runs entirely in your browser.
