How to Crop a Photo to Exactly the Part You Want

Cutting a photo down to the right frame by dragging a selection, instead of guessing at pixel coordinates.

A photo is almost right, except for a distracting background, a stranger at the edge of the frame, or too much empty space around the actual subject. What it needs is not editing - just less of it.

Select and cut

  • Open Crop Image and drop in the photo.
  • Drag the corners of the selection box to resize it, or drag inside it to move it, then confirm to cut the image down to that area.

Cropping isn't resizing

It's easy to reach for the wrong tool here. Image Resizer changes the dimensions of the whole photo, stretching or scaling everything in it to fit new measurements - nothing is removed. Cropping does the opposite: it keeps the part you select at its original resolution and simply discards the rest. If a photo needs to lose something at the edges, that's a crop; if it needs to become a specific width and height overall, that's a resize.

Common questions

Will this reduce the quality? No - the kept area is saved at its original resolution, just smaller in dimensions since less of the photo remains.

Does it keep the original format? Yes - a PNG stays a PNG with transparency intact, and a JPG stays a JPG.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere? No, cropping happens entirely in your browser.
