How to Merge PDF Files for Free

Combine PDFs into one file in the right order, without installing anything.

Merging PDFs comes up in ordinary situations more often than it seems like it should: a job application that needs a cover letter, resume, and references in one file; a few scanned pages that need to become one document; a report assembled from sections written separately. Here is the fast way to do it.

Step by step

  • Open Merge PDF and drag in your files, or choose them from a picker.
  • Drop in more files any time before merging - they get added to the end of the list.
  • Use the up/down arrows next to each file to put them in the order you want the final PDF to read.
  • Press merge, then download the combined file.

What actually happens to your files

The merge runs in your browser, not on a server - the PDFs you drop in are never uploaded anywhere. That also means there is no realistic file-size ceiling beyond what your device's memory can hold, since nothing has to travel over your connection first.

If you need the opposite

Need to pull specific pages back out of a merged file later, or split one PDF into several? That is Split PDF, the reverse operation.

Common questions

Does merging change the quality of the pages? No - each page is copied into the new file as-is, not re-rendered or re-compressed.

Is there a limit on how many files I can merge? No hard limit is enforced; very large combined files are bounded by your browser's available memory rather than an artificial cap.

Does this work on a phone? Yes - it is the same in-browser process either way, though merging very large files is naturally slower on a phone's hardware than a desktop.
