How to Scan a Document with Your Phone or Webcam

Turn a photo of a paper document into a clean, straightened PDF - no scanner app, and nothing uploaded.

Published by Filevolo · Report a correction

A document photographed by hand is almost never perfectly square to the camera. PDF Scanner straightens that perspective automatically and turns the result into a clean PDF - the same correction a dedicated scanner app does, done directly in your browser with your device's camera or an existing photo.

Capture or upload the page

Use your device's camera directly, or upload a photo you already took - either works the same way from there. Drag the four corner handles onto the document's real corners; Filevolo mathematically flattens the photo into a straight, rectangular page once they're lined up.

Scan more than one page

Add as many pages as you need, each with its own photo and corner adjustment, and they combine into a single multi-page PDF in the order you added them. Black & white mode converts a page to higher-contrast grayscale, closer to the look of a traditional document scan - useful for text-heavy pages.

Want the result searchable?

A scan like this is just an image of the page - to search it, select text, or copy from it, run the finished PDF through OCR PDF afterward, which adds an invisible, searchable text layer without changing how the page looks.

Common questions

What if the corner guides aren't quite right? Drag any of the four handles to line them up exactly with the document's real edges before confirming that page.

Can I mix photos and camera captures in one PDF? Yes - add pages from either source in any order; they all combine into the same multi-page result.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere? No. The camera feed, the perspective correction, and the PDF creation all happen entirely in your browser.
