Why Convert AVIF to JPG?

AVIF is a newer image format that makes photos very small, and more sites and phones use it every year. The catch is that many programs, print shops, email clients and upload forms still only accept JPG. Converting gives you a file that opens everywhere.

How the Conversion Works

Your browser decodes the AVIF itself and this page saves the picture again as a JPG. That means it works only if your browser can display AVIF, which current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can. A JPG is larger than the AVIF it came from, and some detail is traded for size, as with any JPG.

Frequently asked questions

The browser has to be able to open AVIF for the conversion to work. If your browser is more than a couple of years old, update it or try a different one.

JPG does not support transparency. Any transparent areas in the AVIF are filled with white.

For normal photos, yes. AVIF files that use high dynamic range (HDR) or more than 8 bits per color are converted to standard 8-bit color, so very bright highlights can look slightly flatter.
