How to Build a Resume or CV Online for Free
Pick the right template for where you're applying, from a plain ATS-safe layout to a designed European-style CV.

Which resume layout actually helps you depends entirely on who - or what - reads it first. Resume Builder has five templates built around that difference, rather than one design trying to work everywhere.
Pick the right template
Classic is a free, single-column, plain-text layout - the safest choice when a company's applicant tracking software reads your resume before a person does, which covers most US applications. Modern adds a colored sidebar with your photo, contact details, and skills alongside your experience, the style most European-style CVs use. Executive keeps a single column but adds a bold colored header and section dividers for a more designed look that still parses easily. Minimal strips out every color block in favor of pure typography and generous whitespace. Timeline lays your work history along a vertical colored line with a marker at each job. Modern, Executive, Minimal, and Timeline are Filevolo Pro templates; Classic is free with no limits.
Add more than just job titles
Add as many jobs and qualifications as you need, each with its own dates and bullet points - a "Current" checkbox automatically shows "Present" instead of an end date. Beyond the basics, rate each skill on a simple five-dot scale, list languages with whatever proficiency scale you use, add certifications with their issuer and year, and showcase personal or side projects with a link and bullet points - all optional, all laid out automatically whichever template you pick.
Should you include a photo?
It's optional, available only on Modern and Executive. Many US applications prefer no photo at all, partly to avoid bias concerns and because ATS software can't read it; a photo is standard on many European CVs. Follow whatever's expected where you're applying rather than a fixed rule.
Common questions
Will this work with applicant tracking systems (ATS)? Classic uses plain text, standard section headings, and simple bullet points in one column, which is what most ATS software parses reliably. Modern's two-column layout is less guaranteed to parse correctly in every system - use Classic if you're not sure which your target company uses.
Is a CV different from a resume here? No - the same tool works for both, and Modern in particular matches common European CV conventions like a photo and languages listed with proficiency levels.
Is my information stored anywhere? No. The resume, including any photo you add, is generated entirely in your browser.
