Summarize PDF Online

Summarize a PDF with Chrome's on-device AI or by picking its key sentences, processed in your browser so the document is never uploaded.

Drag a PDF here, or choose a file

Get the main points of a long PDF. It stays on your device.

You can also paste a file directly (Ctrl+V or ⌘V).

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your file is not uploaded to a server at any point.

A Summary That Never Leaves Your Device

Most PDF summarizers send your document to a server to be read by an AI service. This one does not. The text is read from the PDF in your browser, and the summary is made there too, so contracts, reports and papers stay on your computer.

Two Ways to Summarize

On-device AI uses the language model built into recent versions of Chrome on a desktop computer. It writes the summary in its own words, for English documents. The first use downloads the model to the browser once.

Key sentences picks the sentences that best represent the document, word for word. It cannot rephrase, but it works in every browser and every language, and everything it shows is really in your PDF.

Scanned Documents

A scan is a picture of a page, with no text to read. Run it through OCR PDF first, then summarize the result.

Frequently asked questions

No. The PDF is read in your browser. The on-device AI is a model that runs inside Chrome itself, and the key-sentences method needs no model at all. Nothing is sent anywhere.

It needs Chrome on a desktop computer (Windows, Mac or Linux) with its built-in AI available, and a document in English. In any other browser, the key-sentences summary is used instead, and it works for any language.

Key sentences are exact quotes from the document, so nothing is made up, but they can miss context. An AI summary reads more smoothly but can miss or misstate details, so check anything important against the original.

Up to 300 pages or 50 MB. Very long documents are summarized in pieces and then combined.

Not directly, because there is no text in it. Make it searchable with OCR PDF first.
