Flip Image

Flip a JPG or PNG horizontally or vertically, processed in your browser.

Drag an image here, or choose a file

JPG or PNG.

You can also paste a file directly (Ctrl+V or ⌘V).

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your file is not uploaded to a server at any point.

Choose the right direction

Use Horizontal when the left and right sides need to swap, such as a mirrored selfie. Use Vertical when the top and bottom need to swap. If a photo is simply sideways, use Rotate Image instead: mirroring would also reverse the subject. Applying both flips has the same orientation as a 180-degree rotation.

Try it without uploading a personal photo

Select “Try it with a sample file”, then switch Horizontal on and off. Look at an off-centre feature in the preview: it should move to the opposite side. Enable Vertical to compare the top and bottom. Choose “Download flipped image” to prepare the result, then download it from the result screen. Inspect any text or logo before sharing; a horizontal mirror reverses lettering too.

Output format, transparency and quality

PNG input is saved as PNG and retains transparent areas. JPG input is saved as JPG and is re-encoded, so this is not a lossless JPEG transformation. The pixel dimensions stay the same, but file size can change. The preview shows the orientation; free exports also include the Filevolo credit added during export. Keep the original if you may need to edit again.

If the result is not what you expected

If the subject becomes upside down, turn off Vertical and try Horizontal alone. If lettering is reversed, check whether the original was already mirrored. For a transparent logo, start with PNG rather than JPG. If a large image cannot be processed on your device, try a smaller copy; browser memory and canvas limits still apply even though the image stays on your device.

Flip an Image Horizontally or Vertically

A horizontal flip creates a mirror image by reversing the picture from left to right - useful for selfies, design layouts, directional compositions and mirrored graphics. A vertical flip turns the picture across its horizontal axis instead.

Frequently asked questions

Rotate Image turns a photo in 90-degree steps. This mirrors it instead - flipping it like a reflection, horizontally or vertically, which a rotation can't do.

Yes - turn on both, and the result is mirrored on both axes (the same as a 180-degree rotation).

Yes - the preview updates instantly as you toggle each direction.

No. The image is read, flipped, and re-saved entirely in your browser.
