Filevolo

Convert PDF to Word

Convert a PDF with selectable text into an editable .docx Word document, with headings, lists and simple tables rebuilt, processed in your browser.

Drag a PDF here, or choose a file

Works on PDFs with real, selectable text - not scans. Up to 50 MB.

You can also paste a file directly (Ctrl+V or ⌘V).

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your file is not uploaded to a server at any point.

An Editable Word File Built From the PDF's Own Text

A PDF stores text as separate, positioned fragments with no real paragraphs, columns or tables. Filevolo reads where every fragment sits on the page and works the structure out from that: lines are joined into paragraphs, bigger or bolder lines become headings, bullets and numbers become lists, columns of aligned text become tables, and text set in two columns is read one column after the other. The result is a standard .docx you can open in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages and edit.

What Comes Through, and What Doesn't

Carried over: text, headings, bulleted and numbered lists, simple tables, bold and italic, centered and right-aligned lines, the document font style (serif, sans-serif or monospace), and the page size. A paragraph that runs across a page break is joined back together, and a table that continues on the next page is one table.

Not carried over: pictures and graphics (use Extract Images from PDF to save them), exact fonts, colors and positions, page headers, footers and page numbers (repeating ones are removed on purpose), and form fields. A PDF is a picture of a page while a Word file is a flowing document, so complicated layouts, such as brochures, magazines and forms, will need tidying afterwards. This is a text-first converter, not a pixel copy.

Scanned PDFs Need OCR First

A scanned page is only a picture, so there is no text to read. Run it through OCR PDF first, which adds a text layer, and then convert the result. Pages with no text are listed so you know which ones were left out.

Frequently asked questions

No, and no converter that rebuilds a flowing document can promise that. Text, headings, lists and simple tables come through; fonts, colors, pictures and exact positions do not. Expect to tidy complicated layouts.

No. Pictures are not placed in the Word file. Use Extract Images from PDF to save them as separate files and insert the ones you need.

Not directly, because a scan contains no text. Run it through OCR PDF first, then convert the searchable result here.

Rows of text that line up in columns, with a visible gap between them, are detected and become real Word tables, including a table that continues across pages. Tables with very tight columns, merged cells or no spacing may come out as plain text instead.

Unlock it first with Unlock PDF (you need the password), then convert the unlocked copy.

No. The PDF is read and the Word file is built entirely in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.
