What this inspection can establish

This is a preliminary inspection of four indicators: encryption status, a non-empty OutputIntents array, a catalog metadata stream, and font-file references in page-level font resources. It does not verify ICC profile contents, valid XMP or a valid PDF/A declaration, font program data, or fonts inside nested forms. A positive result is not proof of PDF/A compliance.

A Structural Check, Not a Certification

This reports preliminary structure indicators - it isn't a full ISO 19005 conformance validator, which also checks narrower rules around compression, color spaces, and document structure. For a full validation report, run the result through veraPDF, a dedicated PDF/A validator. If indicators are missing, adding some of the structural parts is what PDF to PDF/A can help with. It cannot repair every issue or certify the result.

Frequently asked questions

Four preliminary indicators: encryption status, at least one OutputIntent entry, a catalog metadata stream, and font-file references in page-level resources. Their presence does not prove that the contents meet PDF/A requirements.

Metadata claims do not prove conformance. This limited inspection can also miss declarations in compressed metadata. Use a dedicated validator to establish the actual result.

No. It only inspects preliminary structure indicators, not the full ISO 19005 specification. For a full validation report, use veraPDF.

Use a dedicated validator to identify the actual issues. The preparation tool can add a color profile and metadata, but font problems may require re-exporting the original document. Validate the prepared file again before submitting it.
