Translate PDF Online

Translate a PDF with Chrome's on-device translation and get an editable Word file, processed in your browser so the document is never uploaded.

This browser cannot translate on the device.

Translating a PDF here uses the translation models built into Chrome on a computer (Windows, Mac or Linux), so the text never leaves your device. Open this page in a current version of Chrome to use it. To read a PDF aloud or get its main points in any browser, try Read PDF Aloud or Summarize PDF.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your file is not uploaded to a server at any point.

Translation That Stays on Your Device

Most PDF translators send your whole document to a server. This one does not. The text is read from the PDF in your browser and translated by the translation models built into Chrome on a computer, so contracts, reports and letters never leave your device.

What You Get

A Word file with the translated text, keeping headings, lists and tables, and a plain text version. It does not keep the page layout, pictures or fonts, the same limits as PDF to Word. The source language is detected for you and can be changed.

What You Need

Chrome on Windows, Mac or Linux. The first time you use a pair of languages, the browser downloads that language pack once. Other browsers do not have on-device translation yet, and the page tells you so instead of sending your text somewhere else. A scanned PDF has no text to translate; run it through OCR PDF first.

Frequently asked questions

No. The PDF is read in your browser and translated by models that run inside Chrome itself. Nothing is sent to Filevolo or to anyone else.

On-device translation is currently built into Chrome on computers (Windows, Mac, Linux). Phones, Firefox and Safari do not have it yet. We would rather say so than quietly send your text to an online service.

The list shows common languages, and your browser decides which pairs it can actually do. If a pair is not offered, the page says so before you start.

It is good for understanding a document and usable as a first draft, but machine translation can get names, numbers, legal terms and technical vocabulary wrong. Check anything that matters, and have important documents translated by a professional.

Your browser downloads the language pack the first time you use a pair, and the translation then runs on your own processor, a paragraph at a time. Long documents take a while. You can stop at any time and keep what is done.
